REMEO is an innovative program for long-term ventilated patients following intensive care, supporting them in intermediate care and at home
Derived from the Latin ‘I return home’, REMEO® is the name of our care program designed to meet the individual needs of long-term ventilated patients and their families:
REMEO® Ventilation and Weaning Centers bridge the gap between the time when a patient no longer needs monitoring in an intensive care unit and when homecare is not yet possible. Here, patients who are medically stable are cared for around the clock by experienced Respiratory Therapists. Patients receive physical, speech, and occupational therapy, as well as nursing and wound care. Our ventilator weaning techniques are unique in that we slowly wean the patient over time, coaching them along the way and avoiding medications that would hinder the weaning process.
When the patient returns home, qualified REMEO staff continues to provide full medical and technical support. Services offered range from comprehensive care training and help with related routine tasks to at home visits by REMEO staff on request.
Our ventilators weigh in at only 12 pounds but still provide the latest modalities including pressure support and PEEP. These light weight units allow the patient to be mobile while still ventilated.
For patients who are not weanable, we offer an extensive family education program. This allows the caregivers to have hands-on training and to demonstrate competency prior to home discharge. This inpatient training method virtually eliminates rebound to the hospital after discharge. When possible, our Respiratory Therapists also attend to them at home, providing a continuum of care unmatched in the industry.
All patients in our REMEO Ventilation and Weaning Centers are monitored 24 hours per day with a redundant monitoring system for maximum patient safety. Medical direction and patient care are provided by board certified pulmonologists who are regularly on site.
